GENERAL

Bali which is also referred to as The Island of Gods, The Paradise Island, or The Island of a Thousand Temples, is located between Java and Lombok. Java is located to the west while Lombok is situated to the east of Bali. Bali is one of the 33 provinces of Indonesia with Denpasar at the southern part of the island as its capital.

GEOGRAPHY 

Bali Island is located 3.2 km east of Java. Java and Bali are separated by the narrow Bali Strait. Its length from east to west is about 153 km while from north to south it spans up to 112 km.The total measure of the land area is 5,632 km2.

The highest elevation at the central of the main land reaches up to around 3,000 meters above the sea level, the highest of which is Mount Agung which reaches 3,142 meters. This active volcano is also referred to as the mother mountain.

LANGUAGE

most widely spoken languages in Bali are Balinese and Bahasa Indonesian. The primary foreign language is English due to the thriving tourism industry with many locals being fluent English speakers.

WEATHER

Bali has a tropical climate due to its proximity to the equator. Year round temperatures average 31 degrees. High humidity can be expected during the wet season between October- April.

CURRENCY

Indonesian Rupiah is the local currency. Cash can easily be exchanged in hotels, authorised banks and travel agencies. International credit cards are accepted in most hotels, shops and restaurants. The exchange rate varies and must be checked at the hotel front-desk.

HEALTH AND VACCINATIONS 
We strongly encourage you to discuss any required vaccinations for your travel with your GP. 

Water-borne, food-borne, insect-borne and other infectious diseases (including hepatitis, filariasis and rabies) are prevalent with more serious outbreaks occurring from time-to-time.

  • Boil all drinking water or drink bottled water.
  • Avoid uncooked and under-cooked food.
  • Avoid contact with dogs and cats and seek urgent medical attention if bitten.

Seek urgent medical attention if you suspect poisoning, have a fever or suffer from diarrhoea

VISAS
Please note that at time of writing April 2019, Australian passport holders do not require vacation visas for stays of 30 days or less. Please refer to the Indonesian Consulate for further information on other passport holders.

CUSTOMS REGULATIONS
There is no limit to the amount of hard foreign currency that you may bring in, but sums that exceed locale currency of IDR 5,000,000 is limited on import or export. Indonesia's list of prohibited imports includes drugs, weapons, fresh fruit and anything remotely pornographic. Items allowed include 200 cigarettes (or 50 cigars or 100g tobacco), a 'reasonable amount' of perfume and 1L of alcohol.
